The Full Story about artifact 1:
"I am Statment"
During my second year of college, I enrolled in H200, a course required for admission to the Honors College. As part of the course, we were assigned to write an "I Am/I Want to Become" statement, in which we reflected on out current identity and aspirations for the future. This page is dedicated to that assignment, showcasing how I have reflected on my past self and the personal growth I have experienced.
I hope this page will demonstrate to Dr. Sheeler, the Dean and Professor for my H200 course, the progress I have made over the past few years. Her consistent encouragement to strive for excellence has motivated me to push beyond my limits, both in my personal development and in preparing for future professional opportunities. It is my goal that this reflection will highlight the skills and attributes I have cultivated, which can be valuable in any work environment.

H200 "I Want to Become"
"Ever since graduating from high school and coming to IUPUI I have strived to complete four specific goals: leadership, experience, volunteering, and cultural understanding. The object of these four goals was to better understand where I stand at IUPUI and to become a well rounded student and medical school applicant. I started college knowing I wanted to go into medicine after my undergraduate years, and in order to work with anyone within medicine you have to be well rounded.
I started out completing these goals by joining an apprenticeship, working in a research lab, becoming a leader in volunteer initiatives domestic and abroad, also known as VIDA, along with a few other experiences. These experiences for the most part have covered all four goals. The one that I haven't fully completed has been cultural understanding. I want to study abroad at least once, this would allow me to broaden my knowledge when working with others in the world. I want to use these goals and experiences to network with others and get my foot in the door. I want to one day use my knowledge on cultural understanding to eventually become a travel surgeon.
Though I have had a lot of positive experience so far in college, I believe that being apart of the Honors College I will be able to build on my networking skills as well as achieving outstanding grades. I want these experiences to help me teach others about what I have learned. I want to be able to advocate for others and myself. "
Reflection
Since writing my "I want to become" statement, I've been able to achieve each of the four goals I set for myself: leadership, experience, volunteering, and cultural understanding. I've continued many of the roles I was already involved in, but I also added studying abroad to the mix.

In terms of leadership, I've had the chance to serve as a third-year Residential Assistant, where I've worked to empower and support first-year students as they navigate their college experience.

I also took on the leadership of the Volunteer Initiatives Club at the IUI campus, where we partnered with several environmental groups to make a positive impact on the environment.

One of the most impactful experiences was studying abroad in Costa Rica. It gave me a deeper understanding of the human impact on the environment and how we can help preserve it.

these experiences ultimately led me to shift my career focus. Instead of pursuing medical school, I decided to start a Master's program in Public Health.

Overall, I've learned to be patient with the process, appreciate the opportunities I've had, and share what I've learned with others.
